On December 19 in Kigali, Rwanda, the Rwanda NGO Forum, in collaboration with the Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC) and other partners, played host to an illustrious gathering of healthcare stakeholders at the 1st edition of the Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) and Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) Journalism Awards 2023.

The event, a collaborative effort of various organizations committed to healthcare improvement, sought to recognize and celebrate the media’s unwavering commitment and exceptional contributions in advancing water and sanitation initiatives to combat neglected tropical diseases (NTDs).

The awards also aimed to inspire increased media coverage of NTDs and WASH issues in Rwanda.

The Rwanda NGO Forum, known for its mission to strengthen Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and community capacity in critical health areas such as HIV/AIDS, human rights, and health promotion, directed its focus towards malaria, TB, RMNCAH (Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health), neglected tropical diseases, and WASH.

The Neglected Tropical Diseases and WASH Journalism Awards 2023 served as a platform to acknowledge the pivotal role played by media in advocating for improved water and sanitation practices, contributing to the elimination of neglected tropical diseases.

This inaugural edition marked a significant step towards fostering awareness and encouraging media engagement in vital health-related issues within Rwanda.
