Nigerian publisher and mindset stylist Dr. Tewa Onasanya challenged a Kigali audience to rethink the meaning of success and place greater value on personal well-being during a fireside conversation on mindset change held at The Hut Restaurant on August 26, 2026.

The event, attended by about 50 people, was part of Onasanya’s Rule Your Mind Tour and brought together professionals and other participants for discussions on clarity, self-belief, intentional living, and the relationship between achievement and personal well-being.

Onasanya, founder and CEO of Exquisite Magazine and creator of the Rule Your Mind mindset-styling methodology, invited Barbara Umuhoza to join her as a guest for the fireside conversation.

“Success should not cost us our peace. We can be ambitious and accomplished and still create lives that feel as good as they look. When we rule our minds and convince ourselves first, we become unstoppable,” Onasanya said.

The Kigali stop was part of a wider effort to take the Rule Your Mind Tour into new African markets. The initiative had previously been staged in Lagos alongside Onasanya’s Mindset Leadership Initiative.

Access Bank Rwanda participated as the event’s official Employee Wellbeing Partner, with a delegation of its staff attending both the fireside conversation and a dedicated mindset-styling training session.

A representative of the bank addressed participants on the importance of capacity building around mindset styling for its workforce, describing the partnership as part of the bank’s broader investment in employee well-being and explaining its decision to support the initiative.

During the conversation, Onasanya explained “mindset styling” as the deliberate shaping of thoughts, beliefs, and internal narratives that influence everyday decisions and behavior.

She developed the concept through her book Rule Your Mind: How to Style Your Mind to Live the Life You Desire Intentionally, first published in 2018.

Onasanya told participants that a lack of clarity, rather than a lack of ambition, is among the major challenges many people face. She encouraged them to distinguish between having a thought and accepting it as fact while becoming more intentional about the beliefs that influence their choices.

Umuhoza engaged Onasanya on issues including self-belief, workplace pressure, and the difference between visible success and personal well-being, drawing out reflections from both Rule Your Mind and Onasanya’s more recent book, Convince Yourself First.

The discussion also highlighted the need for professionals to pursue ambition without sacrificing their mental and emotional balance, with Onasanya encouraging participants to consider success not only in terms of achievement but also in terms of the quality of life that comes with it.

The Kigali event follows the formal Lagos launch of both books earlier this year alongside the Mindset Leadership Initiative, extending Onasanya’s leadership and mindset conversation to audiences in other African markets.
