The Government of Rwanda is ready to make profits by hosting the Africa Energy Expo and Leadership Summit, which aims to bring together over 3,000 people from around the world. This event will support Africa’s commitments at the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) by providing a platform for dialogue and collaboration to improve access to modern, affordable, and sustainable energy across the continent.

Jean Bosco Mugiraneza, Director General for Energy in Rwanda’s Ministry of Infrastructure, highlighted the opportunities for Rwanda. He emphasized the importance of people coming together to share ideas and find solutions to energy challenges.

Mugiraneza noted that significant funding is needed to provide electricity to millions in Africa and that there is a knowledge gap in managing energy projects. He believes that discussions at the conference will help uncover insights and develop effective strategies.

“To provide electricity to millions who lack it, significant funding is needed, which must be secured by governments. There is also a knowledge gap, as many energy projects in Africa are still managed by foreign entities,” he notes.

“When people come together to discuss these issues, they exchange ideas and explore solutions. What works in one country may not work in another, but these discussions help uncover insights and develop effective strategies,” he adds.

insights and develop effective strategies.

The Ministry of Infrastructure reports that over 80% of Rwandans have access to electricity, with 23.1% using solar power. Mugiraneza is optimistic that the remaining 20% will soon have access to electricity.

Ade Yesufu, Director of Events at Informa Markets, stressed the importance of hosting conferences like this in Africa. He believes that addressing Africa’s issues on the continent is crucial.

The Africa Energy Expo in Kigali will provide a platform for exhibitors to showcase their brands, products, and technologies to a wide audience. The event will also offer an opportunity to meet influential decision-makers in the industry and develop a pan-African customer base.
