The President Paul Kagame has expressed concerns of peace and security concerns which are contemporarily taking a toll in many African countries and across the planet.

Speaking to African Peace Conference where continental leaders are gathering at Nouakchott, Mauritania, Kagame reiterated the dire need to build strong foundation of security and peace in Africa.

Kagame said embarked on transformation journey after the genocide and building strong institutions to re-establish unity and trust.

“This equipped our nation with solid foundation for long-term security and prosperity,” he said adding that prospering peace is a collective effort.

He also expressed concerns about terrorism and violent extremism and spreading rapidly causing harm to communities worldwide.

Hence “Africa is no exception.”

“This is why as a country, we have made a deliberate choice to contribute to the counter-terrorism and post-conflict reconstruction on our continent,” he said referring to Rwanda’s post-conflict recovery.

Kagame added; “We live in a more globalized and interconnected world. There is no one size fits all solution to this challenge because the context matters. The African Peace Conference is an opportunity to strengthen cooperation.”

He emphasized that what Africa needs the most is the political will to put its resources together to address the root causes.

“With peace and security, we can address challenges such as climate change, migration and food security, making Africa even more resilient against future shocks, “the head of the state further noted.

The African Peace Conference 2023 themed “Enter All In Peace!” is aimed at overcoming religious-based terrorism and violence on the continent.

Launched as a joint initiative between the Mauritanian government and the Abu Dhabi Forum for Peace in January 2020, the conference has established itself as the most important event in Africa in the fight against extremism and radical discourses based on the canonical texts of Islam.
