We can’t succeed in reforestation without a woman’s voice, because if women embrace reforestation policies, the nation embraces reforestation policies. In different areas, women order the children to collect firewood from the forest. To resolve this problem, women must be on top to embrace sustainability solutions.
Rwandan women stand for forest protection and biodiversity conservation with their kids.
This Podcast focuses on the contribution of women and kids in the environment and biodiversity conservation in Nyaruguru district, Southern Province in Rwanda.
Listen how women and kids perform in forest and biodiversity conservation
Before being informed about the role of the environment in their lives, they participated in poaching activities at Nyungwe National Park. Some of the women went to the Nyungwe forest to find firewood and meat to eat. The kids went to the Nyungwe forest by order of their parents to collect firewood.
Now women reformed from poachers to biodiversity activists with their kids. They formed environmental conservation groups in their villages and environmental clubs for kids at school.
They gained alternative income through domestic animals like pigs, chickens, and rabbits provided by TROCAIRE and JOA through BIOCOOR and UNICOPAGI.
