Residents of 10 districts across Rwanda are in for a rainy end to the month of January, as the national weather agency has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall between January 21 and 31.
The Rwanda Meteorology Agency (Meteo Rwanda) announced this week that the country should expect to receive between 7 mm and 110 mm of rainfall during the 10 days.
10 districts bracing for heavy rain in late January
- Rusizi: Expected to receive the highest amount in the bracket of 90 mm to 110 mm.
- Nyamasheke: Parts of the district are also in the peak 90-110 mm range.
- Nyaruguru: Forecasted for heavy downpours between 90 mm and 110 mm.
- Nyamagabe: Western parts will see up to 110 mm, with the rest seeing 70-90 mm.
- Karongi: Significant rainfall reaching up to 110 mm in the southern and northern parts.
- Rutsiro: Central parts are set for the highest bracket of 90-110 mm.
- Rubavu: A portion of the southern area is expected to hit the 110 mm mark.
- Huye: Western parts of the district are slated for 70 mm to 90 mm.
- Nyanza: Similar to Huye, western sections will receive 70 mm to 90 mm.
- Musanze: Northern and western sectors are expected to experience 70 mm to 90 mm.
Outlook for the rest of the country
The remaining parts of the Western Province, as well as northern and western Musanze and northern Burera, are also expected to receive significant rainfall between 70 mm and 90 mm, MeteoRwanda indicated in the announcement.
In the capital, the northern parts of Kigali City are forecast to receive between 50 mm and 70 mm. The same range applies to the remaining areas of the Northern and Southern Provinces.
Eastern Province and other remaining regions are likely to see lighter totals, generally between 30 mm and 50 mm.
The agency showed that the eastern parts of Nyagatare, Gatsibo, and Kayonza will likely receive lower rainfall, ranging between 7 mm and 30 mm.
