The Rwanda Meteorology Agency (Meteo Rwanda) has announced that between November 11 and 20, 2025, the country is expected to experience heavy rainfall ranging from 30 to 150 millimeters, which is above the usual average for this period of the year (normally between 25 and 90 millimeters).

Heavy Rain Expected in Western and Northern Provinces

According to Meteo Rwanda, rainfall between 120 and 150 millimeters is expected across many parts of the Western and Northern Provinces, as well as in parts of the Muhanga, Nyamagabe, and Nyaruguru districts.

Other regions, including the City of Kigali and parts of the Northern, Southern, and Western Provinces, along with sections of the Bugesera, Gatsibo, and Nyagatare districts, are expected to receive 90 to 120 millimeters of rain.

Moderate rainfall, ranging between 60 and 90 millimeters, is expected in Kigali, Bugesera, Rwamagana, Kayonza, Ngoma, and the central parts of Nyagatare and Gatsibo.

In the remaining areas of the Eastern Province, rainfall is expected to range between 30 and 60 millimeters.

Meteo Rwanda explained that the heavy rainfall will be caused by a convergence of wind systems over Rwanda. The rains are expected to last between three and five days, depending on the area.

Temperature Forecast

Daytime temperatures are expected to range from 20°C to 30°C, which is typical for this time of the year.

Higher temperatures, between 28°C and 30°C, are expected in most parts of Kigali, Rwamagana, Kayonza, Nyagatare, Bugesera, Kirehe, Gatsibo, and the Amayaga region.
Cooler areas, with temperatures between 20°C and 22°C, include Nyabihu, Nyamagabe, Nyaruguru, Musanze, and neighboring districts.

Nighttime temperatures are expected to range between 9°C and 19°C.
The coldest nights (9°C–11°C) are likely in Nyabihu, Musanze, Ngororero, Nyaruguru, and Nyamagabe, while the warmest nights (17°C–19°C) are expected in Kigali, Bugesera, Kayonza, Kirehe, Gatsibo, and Amayaga.

Wind Forecast

Moderate to strong winds are expected across the country, with speeds ranging from 4 to 12 meters per second (m/s).

Stronger winds, between 8 and 12 m/s, are forecast in Rubavu, Kigali, Kayonza, Nyaruguru, Nyamagabe, Rusizi, Karongi, and Rutsiro districts.
Moderate winds, between 4 and 6 m/s, are expected in Nyagatare, Gakenke, Ngoma, Gicumbi, Muhanga, and Ruhango, while other parts of the country are likely to experience winds ranging from 6 to 8 m/s.

Given the above-average rainfall and strong winds expected during this period, Meteo Rwanda has urged residents to take precautionary measures and follow guidance from local disaster management and emergency response authorities to minimize potential risks and damages.
