Health professionals will continue working as normal despite a reduction of working hours from nine to eight per day, government said.
The statement released by the Ministry of Health said working hours for health facilities will not change to ensure the continuity of essential healthcare services.
“Heads of health facilities are urged to continue facilitating staff with special needs and ensure a conducive working environment for effective service delivery,” the statement said.
The Cabinet meeting headed by President Paul Kagame at Village Urugwiro in November decided to adjust official working hours from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
With the new working hours, public servants will have to work 40 hours a week.
As the health officials retain the working hours, other sectors have already adjusted their working hours.
For example, in all courts the starting hour of court hearings will now onwards be heard at 9am.
The adjustments which took effect this year are aimed at improving workplace productivity and the general well-being of Rwandans according to government.
But health workers are insisting the changes should be equally distributed. They claim that all public servants should enjoy the same benefits. Government has not responded to these demands yet.
