The Rwanda Energy Group (REG) has announced planned electricity outages in various districts across the country between February 9 and 17, 2026, due to maintenance and rehabilitation work on the power grid.
In a statement released on February 7 through REG’s official social media platforms, the utility company indicated that the outages will not affect all areas at the same time, but that maintenance activities will disrupt electricity supply in selected sectors.
The statement reads:
“As part of efforts to expand and rehabilitate electricity infrastructure across different districts, planned power outages will affect certain sectors listed in this notice between February 9 and 17, 2026. Customers are advised to remain cautious around electrical lines, as power may be restored earlier than the scheduled time.”

Power interruptions have been reported in several parts of the country in recent weeks. In previous communications, REG attributed some of the disruptions to technical challenges affecting cross-border power transmission lines shared with neighboring countries.
Currently, access to electricity in Rwanda stands at approximately 85 percent of households. Electricity also supports a wide range of economic activities, including more than 1,300 industrial enterprises operating nationwide.
