Rwanda’s Prime Minister, Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva, has said that the country’s commitment to promoting quality standards in trade has significantly strengthened international confidence in Rwanda. He emphasized that quality is a cornerstone of sustainable development.
Dr. Nsengiyumva made the remarks on Monday, October 6, 2025, while officially opening the ISO Annual Meeting 2025, the world’s largest gathering focused on standards and quality assurance.
The meeting, which also serves as the General Assembly of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), is taking place in Kigali from October 6 to 10, 2025. It has brought together more than 1,000 delegates from 176 countries.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the Government of Rwanda has prioritized quality standards, product inspection, and metrology as central pillars of the country’s development strategy, recognizing that these elements are key to building a resilient and sustainable future.
“In Rwanda, the government has placed quality, product inspection, and measurement at the heart of our development agenda. This approach has helped us build a competitive economy that promotes safety, enhances the quality and reliability of goods and services, supports tourism, drives industrial growth, and accelerates innovation and technology adoption,” said Dr. Nsengiyumva.
He added that the promotion of quality standards has enabled Rwanda’s economy to become more competitive both regionally and globally.
Dr. Nsengiyumva also noted that this week’s conference offers a unique opportunity for countries and partners to showcase how quality standards can drive sustainable development.
“Quality supports trade, fosters innovation, helps address climate change, and provides practical solutions to global challenges. It forms a strong foundation for sustainable progress,” he said.
ISO President Dr. Sung Hwan Chu stated that the ISO Annual Meeting 2025 is expected to advance global efforts in promoting quality standards that enhance cross-border trade and build trust among member states.
“This meeting aims to promote quality standards and serve as a platform for sharing knowledge and strengthening partnerships,” Dr. Chu said.
This year’s conference is being held under the theme “United for Impact,” highlighting the collective power of collaboration for the common good.
The event has brought together government officials, leaders of international organizations, executives of major corporations, standards bodies, consumer protection organizations, research institutions, and representatives of civil society.
The ISO Annual Meeting is widely recognized as one of the most influential global gatherings dedicated to international standards, bringing together key decision-makers who shape policy, promote trade, and advance innovation and quality across industries worldwide.
