On social media, circulated information that President Kagame spent two weeks in a Hospital in Germany. This information was in a statement written in the name of the Ministry of Defense, Government of Rwanda.

 Claim

These claims have circulated widely, despite a lack of any credible evidence.

The government spokesperson, Yolande Makolo, talked to Taarifa that the rumors are baseless and urged the public to remain calm.

“Please don’t be carried away by this recurring fake news. There is nothing to be worried or concerned about,” she said.

She clarified that it is not unusual for President Kagame to take time away from the public eye, especially after an intense schedule of national and international engagements.

President Kagame received Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo on Tuesday, 24 June 2025

“He is a human being, and like anyone else, he takes time to rest. There is nothing unusual or alarming,” a close family member said.  “The President is well and taking a normal break. He remains fully in charge.” There is no reason for alarm, “The President is well.”

Verification

On Tuesday 24, June 2025, the Ministry of Defense, Government of Rwanda, publishes a statement that this information is fake news, because President Kagame is well and didn’t announce this fake news.

Evidence

This Tuesday, the Rwanda Defense Force (RDF) published a statement that the information circulated on social media is fake news.

The same day (Tuesday) afternoon, the Office of the President of Rwanda. Posted on its X (Twitter) account and writes that President Kagame received Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Message posted:” This afternoon at Urugwiro Village, President Kagame received Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo for a wide-ranging discussion. They discussed the situation in the region, along with various key issues of continental and global significance. The two leaders shared insights on pathways toward stability, cooperation, and progress.”

The public is called upon to rely on official communication channels and not to amplify unverified content.
